Addleshaw Goddard is set to move the bulk of its London lawyers under one roof, with the national giant in final negotiations to take on new space in the City that will let it almost double its headcount.

The top 20 firm is negotiating a deal to take on the whole of Milton Gate from UBS and Exemplar. The offices, on Moor Lane, would give the firm 200,000 sq ft of space - allowing it to bring together lawyers from its 80,000 sq ft Aldersgate Street office and its 46,000 sq ft premises in Noble Street.

The firm will retain its small premises on Lime Street for insurance work.

Addleshaws is also in talks with Moore Stephens that are likely to see the accounting firm take on the lease for Addleshaw’s Aldersgate office, which it acquired through its merger with City outfit Theodore Goddard in 2003.

Addleshaws has around 540 staff in London but has been trying to find bigger office space for some time. It has looked at approximately six sites across the City. However, talks with the other sites have been put on hold while negotiations take place for Moor Lane.

It is understood that an agreement will be reached imminently with the firm expecting to move in as early as Spring next year. Milton Gate underwent a total refit, costing around £30m, that finished in September 2007.

The new premises will reportedly be let on a 15 year lease for £53.50 per square foot although Addleshaws declined to comment on this.
