The top 10 US law firm saw revenues up from $1.62bn (£820m) in 2006 to $2.005bn (£1bn), a 23% rise. At the same time, profits per equity partner rose from $1.86m (£953,000) to $2.27m (£1.17m).

Latham London managing partner Andrew Moyle (pictured) told Legal Week: “We have doubled our revenue, from $1bn to $2bn, in just four years. The year-on-year increase is a testament to the strength of our global platform and the diversity of our practices.”
However, Moyle conceded that the tougher economic climate would affect international law firms in 2008.
“Last year was spectacular and there is no doubt 2008 will be more challenging,” Moyle said. “We are well-placed as a firm because of our focus on diversity of practice and global operation. It means we can benefit from offices less affected by economic issues.”
The results come amid a period of renewed international expansion for Latham, with the firm last year launching an Italian law practice with the hire of a five-partner team from local leader Bonelli Erede Pappalardo. Recent months have also seen the firm make senior appointments in
