Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has hired Herbert Smith’s head of international arbitration, Laurence Shore, in a significant boost for its dispute resolution practice.
The dual-qualified lawyer will leave his role at the top 10 London firm and relocate to Gibson Dunn’s New York office in April. It is understood he was keen to move back to the US.
Shore will be replaced in his role at Herbert Smith by London partner Paula Hodges and Paris-based Charles Kaplan, who become global co-heads of the 14-partner practice.
Herbert Smith head of dispute resolution Sonya Leydecker said: “We knew Larry wanted to conclude his career in New York and wish him all the best. Given the importance of the London-Paris axis to our arbitration reputation, it is appropriate that he is now passing the leadership baton on to Paula and Charles.”
Shore’s hire is part of an effort by Gibson Dunn to bulk up its international arbitration capability. Twelve months ago the firm hired White & Case’s London co-head of international arbitration, Cyrus Benson, with whom Shore will work while attempting to build up the practice.
It is the second hire in a week for Gibson Dunn, which also announced the partner appointment of Dewey & LeBoeuf’s corporate finance specialist Mitri Najjar on Monday (4 February).
