Senior associate Georgie Collins, who headed up Bevan Brittan’s IP group, and assistant Harry Karaolou have joined the City firm’s commerce and technology team and will work on contentious and non-contentious IP issues. The pair started at LG on
14 January.
The 20-lawyer LG team previously had two partners and five assistants working on IP issues, although all dealt purely with non-contentious matters.
Collins said: “It is a fantastic opportunity to develop our IP practice. LG has a strong corporate and commercial base which is absolutely fundamental to the success of an IP practice.”
She added: “India is a real interest for us. I think LG acted as counsel in six out of 10 major deals in India last year. This type of legal work is often very IP-rich.”
Karaolou and Collins have worked together as a team for five years following Collins’ arrival at legacy firm Bevan Ashford from Altheimer & Gray in 2003.
LG head of commerce and technology Jonathan Riley said: “We are pleased to have two people who worked together before as a team. It is also easier to integrate two people into a group.”
A spokesman for Bevan Brittan said the firm still had a strong IP practice, including three partners, and that the firm was now looking for replacements.
