Olswang has hired Sidley Austin partner Steve Clark, as the top 30 City firm looks to give more prominence to its finance practice.

Clark, who specialises in acquisition and real estate finance, joined Olswang as a partner from Sidley’s City arm earlier this week.

He will work alongside Olswang finance head Moni Mannings as the firm moves to boost the capability of its finance group, which was recently established a standalone practice for the first time.

Commenting on the arrival of Clark, Mannings said: "Steve's extensive experience in all facets of the financial industry both internationally, and in the UK specifically, will further enhance the renowned capability of our current team.”

Prior to joining Chicago-based Sidley in 2005, Clark was a partner at City giant Ashurst.

At Olswang he joins a finance group that acts for clients including Anglo Irish Bank, Deutsche Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland, Dawnay Day, Kaupthing, Graphite Capital and Prestbury.

The hire is the latest in a string of lateral hires for the media-focused firm, which last month took on Speechly Bircham real estate partner Richard Keczkes to head its planning and regeneration practice. That came after the firm last summer bagged a five-strong intellectual property team from US outfit Kilpatrick Stockton, led by high-profile department head Helen Newman.
