Partners at the top 20 City law firm were asked in September to put their names forward if they wished to stand against Morris. However, as first reported on legalweek.com, it was widely expected that Morris would be retained for a second term unopposed.
Commenting on his re-election, Morris said: “The first three years of my tenure as chief executive have seen the firm develop its profitability – which we expect to continue – whilst growing our international footprint.
“The challenge for the future will be to integrate and leverage the full strength of our sector strategy and international network, whilst driving profitable growth.”
Morris took on the chief executive role in December 2004, following a fraught election process from which predecessor Virginia Glastonbury dramatically withdrew. The shock move came after the emergence of an internal memo expressing fears that the partnership was being ‘bounced’ into re-electing
