Denton Wilde Sapte is to appoint a new deputy chairman following the announcement that chairman James Dallas is to relocate from
London to
Dubai next year.
Under the City firm’s partnership deed the chairman is allowed to appoint a deputy to assist him if needed; however, the role has rarely been used.
Dallas will appoint a UK-based deputy to undertake day-to-day tasks, while he will continue to fulfil the majority of the chairman’s function remotely from Dubai.
The appointment is expected to take place before the end of the year and is likely to occur after the chief executive elections — in which current chief executive Howard Morris is widely tipped to win a second term — next month.
The firm last had a deputy chairman in 2000 following Denton Hall’s merger with Wilde Sapte. Current board member and head of reconstruction and insolvency Mark Andrews was appointed as Dallas’ deputy, to help on post-merger issues.
Dallas’ move to the Middle East has been widely viewed as an attempt to demonstrate the region’s strategic importance to the firm.
Dentons has offices in Oman and Abu Dhabi, and recently opened offices in neighbouring Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
