LG is set to open its second office outside the UK with a launch in Dubai, relocating construction partner James Foster to the region.

The firm has taken office space outside the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), but is hoping to secure new premises when space becomes available in the oversubscribed DIFC, which is expected to be some time next year.

The move is significant for LG, which has only one other international arm, in Monaco.

Senior partner Bill Richards said that the office will be a platform to service existing Middle East clients as well as clients in neighbouring regions, including Mumbai, India.

He added: “The main areas we are going to be concerned with are corporate and finance, private capital and construction and projects.

The move comes within days of an announcement by US law firm Gibson Dunn & Crutcher that it plans to open in the region before the end of 2007.

The West Coast firm will open its new office in the DIFC with Washington tax partner Peter Baumbusch relocating to oversee the launch. It will be Gibson Dunn’s first office outside the US and Europe.

Dubai has been the centre of aggressive recruitment from numerous firms in recent years. Lovells, Herbert Smith and King & Spalding have all launched offices there over the last 12 months.

Elsewhere, French independent law firm Brandford-Griffith & Associes is also opening an office in the city, to be managed by one of the firm’s founding partners, Nigel Hartridge.
