Linklaters has re-jigged its US management, with global finance and projects chief John Tucker relocating from London to New York, as the firm looks to underline its commitment to the US.

The reshuffle sees Tucker take overall control of the magic circle law firm’s Americas practice, with overall responsibility for Linklaters' New York and Sao Paulo offices.

Meanwhile, US managing partner Paul Wickes will take on a new role as US senior partner.

Litigation partner Larry Byrne and corporate partner Nick Rees, who relocated from London to New York at the beginning of the month, will become co-managing partners of the New York office.

Rees – who has previously headed up both Linklaters’ Asian corporate team and its Moscow office – became a partner in 1994. He focuses on the infrastructure and utilities sector and has close links with banking giant Citi, having last year advised on its $3bn (£1.49bn) acquisition of Guangdong Development Bank.

Byrne joined Linklaters last year from White & Case along with a 15-lawyer team and was previously head of the City giant’s US litigation practice.

Commenting on his move, Tucker told Legal Week: “Many major banks in the world have their headquarters here [London] or in New York, so it is important to strike a balance effectively.”

The news follows a period of US investment by Linklaters, which now has 130 lawyers in New York, including around 30 partners.
