Taylor Wessing has handed managing partner Michael Frawley a second term at the helm following an uncontested election, it was announced yesterday (30 August).

The news marks the first time that a managing partner has been voted in for two terms at the Anglo-German law firm.

The election process, which was kicked off last month by senior partner Martin Winter, officially closed yesterday. The vote is still subject to ratification by the firm’s European partners, with a positive outcome expected in the next two to three weeks.

Frawley took over as managing partner in October 2004. However, his second term will last just two years instead of the usual three, beginning on 1 September.

Frawley said he was serving a reduced term for personal reasons, although he did not rule out standing for a third term in 2009.  He will focus on updating the firm’s latest four-year strategic plan, which takes effect year and will include efforts to drive up profitability.

The news means Frawley will be at the helm when Taylor Wessing moves into new office premises at New Fetter Lane in December next year or January 2009.

Two others partners are thought to have expressed an interest in the managing partner role although no rival candidates came forward formally ahead of the 14-day voting period.
