Sidley Austin has strengthened its London office with the hire of Kendall Freeman contentious insurance partner Dorothy Cory-Wright, the firm announced today (16 July).
Cory-Wright, who had been a partner at the City firm since 1991, will head up Sidley’s fledgling London insurance and reinsurance disputes practice, which was formed earlier this year.
The four-lawyer group focuses on insurance and reinsurance litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution and will also offer advice on regulatory disputes.
The move follows the US firm's launch in May 2006 of a London insurance and reinsurance transactional practice, headed by partner Nigel Montgomery.
Commenting on the appointment, Jim Stinson, the co-chair of Sidley's global insurance and financial services group, said: “Being a former barrister and now solicitor‑advocate who can appear as an advocate in all English Courts – together with [her] experience in London, Bermuda and the US in dealing with live and run-off market issues, [Cory-Wright's skills are] a natural fit with Sidley's insurance and reinsurance capabilities in London and worldwide."
