Osborne Clarke (OC) is re-jigging its Silicon Valley management with private equity partner Stephen Wilson set to replace corporate partner Andrew Gowans as office head at the end of July.

Gowans, who has led the office for three years, will return to the firm’s Thames Valley office. Under his stewardship, the office has given European legal advice for almost 100 new US clients.

Recent notable transactions include advising Ubiquity Software Corporation on its £76m recommended takeover by Avaya, work on the admission to the Alternative Investment Market of Entelos and Planet Group and advising Iridex Corpon on the UK and French aspects of its $28m (£14m) acquisition of the laser aesthetics business of Laserscope.

OC’s Silicon Valley office housed current managing partner Simon Beswick from 2001 to 2003 before he returned to the UK to take the firm’s helm.

UK-qualified Wilson, who prior to joining OC was a lawyer with Vodafone’s in-house team, has been with the firm since 2000. He said: “With my experience in the UK private equity market, I am keen to build our profile among the West Coast venture capital community.”
