Lovells has hired a new head of legal training from the College of Law.

Christopher Stoakes, currently corporate relations director at the College, will join the City giant on 4 June to oversee its training for lawyers. He replaces Suzanne Fine, who left Lovells to join Linklaters as its new global head of learning and development earlier this year.

Stoakes, who qualified at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and joined the College in 2005, is a former marketing partner at Stephenson Harwood and was previously a faculty member on the MBA in Legal Practice course at Nottingham Law School. He was also a founder-member of legal consultancy Sherwood PSF Consulting.

At Lovells he will report to human resources director Kay Willis and will work closely with training partner John Trotter. His responsibilities will include LPC and post-qualification training as well as client training programmes and online training.

Commenting on the appointment, Trotter said: “[Stoakes] has a unique mix of academic and practical training experience, combined with his background as a qualified lawyer, experienced journalist and legal marketer.”
