Addleshaw Goddard has swelled its partner numbers in the UK with two lateral hires and five internal partner promotions.

The firm has recruited Lawrence Graham real estate partner Leona Ahmed and O’Melveny & Myers corporate counsel Matthew Doughty to join its City real estate and corporate practices.

Ahmed, who specialises in the retail sector, had been a partner with Lawrence Graham since 2001 and has advised clients including Scottish & Newcastle, Zurich Assurance and BMW (UK) Trustees.

Doughty, meanwhile, has worked closely at O’Melveny with private equity partner Andrew Carpenter, who joined Addleshaws last autumn. Doughty and Carpenter previously teamed up with the London Stock Exchange on a tour of California in a bid to attract West Coast companies to list on the Alternative Investment Market.

The hires come as the firm makes five internal promotions across a broad spread of practice areas. Mike Hinchliffe and Fraser Ritson have been made up in the London private equity and business support and restructuring practice respectively. In Leeds David Shaw and Lee Shankland were made up in construction and banking and finance respectively, while Nathan Jansen was promoted in the Manchester real estate team. The hires and internal promotions bring the total number of partners at Addleshaws to 187.

Managing partner Mark Jones said: “We are actively recruiting people at all levels in corporate, real estate, banking and contentious nationally, and importantly in the City.”
