Weil Gotshal & Manges has re-hired the high-profile former head of its global finance and restructuring practice, Harvey Miller, it was announced yesterday (7 March).
Miller, who has spent the last four years at merchant banking firm Greenhill & Co, where he served as managing director and vice chairman, will join the US giant’s Manhattan hub as a partner 12 March.
Prior to joining Greenhill, Miller headed Weil Gotshal’s finance and restructuring group for 31 years and served on the firm’s management committee for 27 years.
The finance and restructuring group, which is headed by New York partners Marcia Goldstein and Martin Bienenstock, now boasts over 100 lawyers and has bagged work on major bankruptcy cases as Enron, Parmalat, WorldCom and Global Crossing over the last decade.
The appointment marks a rare partner-level hire in New York for Weil Gotshal, which in recent years has made most of its lateral hires across its European offices. Notable hires in the last year include private equity heavyweight Marco Compagnoni, who joined from City giant Lovells in 2006, and former Allen & Overy Paris leveraged finance head Jonathan Nabarro, who joined Weil Gotshal in the French capital.
