Addleshaws selects six more fintech startups to receive free legal advice

Addleshaw Goddard has selected six more financial technology startups to receive free legal advice from the firm as part of its year-long AG Elevate programme.

The latest successful applicants to the scheme, which was launched in November, will receive up to 30 hours of free legal advice.

The winning businesses, which saw off competition from about 20 other applicants, are Manchester mobile technology business Airtime Rewards, London blockchain technology group Halotrade, London consumer lending company Lendable, Manchester mobile identity verification business Nivo, Dublin- and London-based money managing service Trezeo, and London- and Lithuania-based mobile payment technology company WoraPay.

They are currently being assigned a mentor from Addleshaws’ AG Elevate fintech team. As well as legal advice, they will also gain access to briefings, seminars and regulatory developments, and networking opportunities.

Key partners on the AG Elevate scheme include the firm’s head of fintech Fiona Ghosh (pictured above), payments partner William James, head of financial services Amanda Hulme, corporate finance partner Elvan Hussein and commercial partner Damon Rosamond-Lanzetta.

Ghosh said: “From providing security to the gig economy to creating a platform that is transforming the consumer loyalty and rewards sector, our 2018 fintechs are transforming the financial services arena. They are all are at very exciting junctures in their growth cycle and we are committed to developing strong ties with them, as well as adding commercial value to their existing strategies.”

In March last year, the scheme’s first intake saw seven successful fintech startups selected out of a total of 30 applicants.

Other law firms currently running schemes to support burgeoning fintech companies include Slaughter and May, which last October selected six more startups to receive free legal advice. Like Addleshaws, the selected companies receive £30,000 in free services from the magic circle firm, including legal advice, access to model legal documentation and coaching on pitching and presentations.
